Biographical / Historical:: Detroit Receiving Hospital was founded as a city-owned hospital in 1915 at Antoine and Macomb Streets in Detroit, Michigan. The hospital provided services to anyone regardless of ability to pay and had departments of general medicine, general surgery, emergency work, psychiatry and orthopedic surgery, as well as an out-patient department. The hospital was renamed Detroit General Hospital in 1965. In 1980, the original name, Detroit Receiving Hospital, was returned. Detroit Receiving Hospital is Michigan's first Level I Trauma Center. It's affiliated with the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
