The collection consists of a portrait attached to newspaper clippings (obituary and reminiscence).

Biographical / Historical:

Harriet Elizabeth Billings DeClaire (surname also spelled De Claire, Declair, and De Cleyre) was born in circa 1836 in New York to Pliny Billings and Alice (Scott) Billings. She married Hector A. DeClaire (surname also spelled De Claire and de Cleyre) in 1861. By 1870, they resided in Bingham Township, Michigan and had two children: Voltairine (also known as Volta) and Adelaide (also known as Adelie). Harriet was a homemaker who occasionally worked as a tailor.

Harriet Elizabeth Billings DeClaire passed away in Saint Johns on 1927.
