Walter Pinkus was an Engineer in Research for the University of Michigan's Atmospheric, Oceanic, and Space Sciences Department's Space Physics Research Laboratory from 1966 to 1996. At the lab he conducted design work on instruments built for various National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) missions. The collection contains correspondence, schematics, project books, and research reports relating to the projects Pinkus worked on. Included in the collection are papers related to the San Marco program, Galileo spacecraft, and the High Resolution Doppler Imager (HRDI).

The Walter Pinkus papers encompasses Pinkus's time at the University of Michigan's Space Physics Research Laboratory. The papers date from 1965 to 1996and include correspondence, schematics, project books, and research reports on instruments built for various National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) missions. Included in the collection are notes from the Galileo space probe project, the San Marco program, Mars Upper Atmosphere Dynamics, Energetics, and Evaluation (MUADEE) project. The arrangement of the collection follows Pinkus's arrangement of the materials.

The Correspondence and Related Materials series (1960-2011, 0.5 linear feet), contains materials relating to his personal correspondences and various project designs. Included are a number of responses from United States Congressmen regarding funding for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Pinkus's resume from 1996. The series also contains digital content that includes performance reviews, reports relating to his research projects, and email correspondence.

Gay rights activist of Ferndale, Mich. Files relating to his involvement with AIDS prevention and gay rights; include minutes of the board and other materials of the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project, 1988-2001; files accumulated from his work with the Michigan Organization for Human Rights; and miscellanea relating to his campaigns for Ferndale City Council in 1995, 1999, 2003, for mayor in 2007, and for Oakland County Commissioner in 2010.

The Craig Covey collection is arranged into two series: Topical Files and Audio-Visual Materials. The topical files are especially important for their documentation of his work in various education and prevention study programs. These include the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project (MAPP for short) and the Michigan AIDS High Risk Education program. Also of important are files documenting his participation in the political and civic life of Ferndale, both within the gay community and as a member of the city council and as Mayor. There is documentation of his campaign for office and his participation in a gay and lesbian neighborhood association, Friends and Neighbors of Ferndale (FANS for short). The Audio-Visual series is comprised mainly of DVDs relating to gay pride ceremonies and activities.

The Spooner collection consists of two motion pictures (with DVD use copy) of the construction of the Great Lakes freighter Edmund Fitzgerald, the launchings of the freighters Herbert C. Jackson and Arthur B. Homer, and the maiden voyage of the Homer. These freighters were the last ships built by Great Lakes Engineering Works of River Rouge, Michigan.

In 2009 a preservation tape, DVD use copy and master and streaming digital files of the motion pictures were made.

Cynthia L. Muñoz is a Detroit native and U-M Dearborn graduate who identifies as half Mexican/Spanish and half Polish/Hungarian. Materials in this collection include Muñoz's unpublished memoir, Vietnam War period correspondence from her uncle Ed Ryba, and family interviews, and photographs.

The Cynthia L. Muñoz papers are comprised of materials related to the Muñoz and Ryba families. The collection includes correspondence from Muñoz's uncle "Ed" Ryba over the course of his time in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, an unpublished memoir written by Muñoz as part of the Immigrant Memoir Project, and family interviews and photographs.

It also contains a program and a commemorative video recording from the 50-year reunion of the 1962 state champion Ann Arbor High School football team. Also included is footage of the building of Ann Arbor High School in the 1950s, the memorial service for University of Michigan athletic standout Don Lund, and videos of various individuals who spoke at local Kiwanis Club meetings.

Dance Marathon at the University of Michigan is a student organization that raises funding for rehabilitation programs at children's hospitals of southeast Michigan. The collection includes yearbooks, scrapbooks, videos, and event guides.

The records of Dance Marathon have been divided into three series: Event Material, Audiovisual Material, and Scrapbooks. These records document the organization's activities from 1998 to 2010.

The Event Material series consists of a dance captain's manual, news articles, promotional materials, sponsor packets, visitor's guides, and yearbooks. These files give a sense of Dance Marathon's mission and how its events were organized.

The Audiovisual Material series includes digital materials and a VHS tape documenting its activities.

The Scrapbook series contains scrapbooks filled with photos of the events, student volunteers, and children with whom the organization has worked.

U-M School of Information, 1991-2006

The U-M School of Information series, 1991-1992006 (7.8 lin. ft.) relates to Atkins tenure there, as professor and dean. It consists of seven subseries. The first, Meetings and activities 1991-2002 (2.9 lin. ft.) is arranged chronologically. Each file documents an event in Atkins' schedule, though many of the files contain little content. Titles of talks given by Atkins are given in quotes in the folder titles. While occasionally the text of the talk is available, more often only images of the slides have been preserved. In 1997, Atkins' assistant created a binder for all events instead of creating a file for each event. The contents of this binder are in the folders labeled "Activities chron." The second subseries, Topical, 1992-2006 (2.5 lin. ft.) contains subject files relating to the conception and development of the School of Information, information-related professional organizations, and academic programs. In addition there is some biographical information contained in folders prefixed Atkins.

The third subseries under the SI series relates to the Digital Library Program, 1994-2000 (0.6 lin. ft.). Wendy Lougee, who was the director of the Digital Library Program, and later the Associate Director for Digital Library Services, prepared a briefing book for Atkins for the Digital Library Program, and the contents are contained in this series. Materials are presented in chronological order and comprise correspondence, meetings with "3D's" (Dan Atkins, Don Riggs, Doug Van Howeling) and color transparencies for talks. The fourth SI subseries, Kellogg Foundation, 1995-2001 (0.8 lin. ft.) contains materials related to Kellogg-funded projects, arranged alphabetically. The fifth subseries, Other funders, 1992-2001 (0.4 lin. ft.) includes files documenting research projects and project proposals to the National Science Foundation (NSF), Ameritech, and Industrial Partners of Computer Science and Engineering (IPoSCE). The sixth subseries, Alliance for Community Technology (ACT), 1991-1998 (0.2 lin. ft.) contains files created by Katherine Willis who managed ACT under Atkins' direction. Finally, the seventh SI subseries, Community Information Corps, 2001-2005 (0.4 lin. ft.) consists of files created by Peter Keller-Transburg related to his staffing the Community Information Corps (CIC) at the School of Information.

The chief items of interest are a secondhand account of the battle of Corinth; the skirmish at Holly Springs; the "Gallant charge on the log heaps"; guerrilla warfare; characterization of General Sherman; criticism of officers and chaplains; and a description of the camp at Brownsville, Ark.

The Dan Sicko Papers comprise the written work and research undertaken by Sicko on the topic of Detroit techno music and its significance for the broader techno genre. The collection's four series contain materials pertaining to Sicko's book Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk, articles written over the course of Sicko's career as a freelance music journalist, popular and scholarly articles written by others, industry-specific and general interest periodicals, and sound recordings of interviews with Detroit-based techno artists, producers, and distributors.

The Dan Sicko Papers comprise over two decades of Sicko's writings and research materials pertaining to the history of Detroit techno music and its role in the electronic music industry. The collection is divided into four series: Writings, Research Materials, Periodicals, and Sound Recordings.

The Sound Recordings series contains a total of 36 microcassette tapes which likely consist predominantly of recordings of interviews Sicko conducted with Detroit-based techno artists, producers, and others active in the Detroit electronic music industry. Many of these interviews were likely undertaken for Sicko's book Techno Rebels: The Renegades of Electronic Funk. N.B.: microcassette labeling is occasionally inconsistent or illegible.

A 2011 guided historic audio walking tour and typed transcript of the University of Michigan's central and south campuses. The assignment created by 2011 U-M graduate Dara Fisher served as a final project for the HIS 302-History on Display: Museums, Historic Sites, and Living History course.

The tour covers the history behind the design, construction, and purpose of several buildings on U-M's central and south campuses. The audio version contains 12 tracks discussing each of the twelve stops on the tour. The transcript serves as a 38-page textual supplement to the audio guide and includes current maps of both central and south campus. Also included is a list of references.
