Collection contains research materials collected and used by Calkins for her research on the history of diversity at the University of Michigan, and includes copies of documents and publications mentioning diversity themes as well as articles and reports based on the research.

Michigan-born newspaperman; correspondence and diaries relating to his professional career.

The collection is comprised of two series: Correspondence and Diaries. The letters are to members of his family describing his journalistic activities and political events of the day. There are letters with observations about Governor Hiram Johnson of California (1910-1917), comments about suffrage for women, 1911-1920, impressions about the two World Wars, and the Progressive Party campaign of Henry Wallace in 1948. The diaries, 1934-1936, discuss his daily life, American politics during the New Deal, and international relations particularly with the Soviet Union.

The Laurene Alice Wallace photographs include copy print photographs and photocopies of postcards. These include views of buildings, street scenes, and farm equipment in Carsonville, Michigan.

The Gilfillan collection is arranged into two series: Correspondence and Other Materials. Most of the collection relates to the publication of her book I Went to Pit College, and to its reception by newspapers and literary periodicals. Some of the later materials in the collection concern Gilfillan's struggles with mental illness.

Research materials used by Laurie Palazzolo in writing of her book Horn Man: the Polish-American Musician in Twentieth-Century Detroit (Detroit, Mich.: American-Polish Music Society, 2003). The collection sheds light on the history of 20th century Polish-American musical landscape of greater Detroit.

The collection documents the history and repertoire of Polish folk music bands in the greater Detroit area as well as professional careers of musicians. The records date primarily from the 1940's until 1980s. Materials dated 1990s-2000s are primarily transcripts of interviews taken by Gomulka Palazzolo. Records include correspondence, business contracts, performance schedules and programs, sheet music, scanned copies of photographs, copies of Keynote magazine, biographical information and interviews of musicians, performance advertisements, and recordings. The records are arranged into five series as follows: Research files, Detroit Federation of Musicians, Sheet music, Sound recordings, and Visual materials.

Organization established in 1989 by University of Michigan librarians and information science professionals and students to promote awareness of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender issues within the university libraries and School of Information. Prior names have been Gay and Lesbian Library Staff (GALLS), Gay and Lesbian Library Association (GALLA), and Bisexual, Gay and Lesbian Library Association (BGALLA).

The records of the Lavender Information and Library Association (LILA) are organized in seven series: Electronic Mail, Meeting Minutes and Agendas, Publicity and Public Relations, Later Accessions, and Artifacts, Additions, and Restricted Files. Documentation details the events and activities of LILA as well as issues and events of general interest to the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

LaVerne Jones was an employee of the Michigan Bell Telephone Company. The materials include board of directors minutes, correspondence, publications, reports, maps, and photographs.

The LaVerne Jones Collection contains records documenting the Michigan Bell Telephone Company's history, primarily in the first half of the twentieth century. The records contain correspondence, publications, reports, maps, photographic materials, and several miscellaneous documents.

Correspondence includes topics such as audits, stock, legal issues, rate controversies, organizational changes, and government nationalization of the telephone system in 1918-1919. Much of the correspondence is addressed to or signed by Mr. A. von Schlegell, general manager.

Prominent publications include telephone directories at the state, county, and local levels; a history of the telephone in Michigan; several issues of "The Michigan Bell" magazine; an engineering bulletin; and a manual of telephone services.

Reports consist of annual company reports, topical reports such as one on inventory and appraisal, and a large work entitled "Histories of Michigan Bell Telephone Company Exchanges."

Miscellaneous records include research documents relating to the company's formation, early history, and organizational structure as well as board of directors minutes from the Valley Home Telephone Company at the time it was acquired by Michigan Bell in 1922.

The maps consist primarily of base maps which are marked with telephone lines and proposed extensions of lines, as well as boundaries of areas serviced by Michigan Bell. Mapped areas include Detroit, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Benton Harbor, and the Bay City-Saginaw area, as well as the state of Michigan as a whole

Photographic materials include both prints and negatives and feature mostly company facilities and equipment such as transformers and switchboards. There is also a photo celebrating the consolidation of the Michigan State Telephone Company and the Valley Home Telephone Company in 1922. Also contained in this collection are photos of telephone poles being transported by train and a Michigan central train wreck.

The LaVerne Schmitkons Nethercut collection consists mainly of materials accumulated while she (Vernie Schmitkons) was a student at the University of Michigan. There is one scrapbook detailing her activities at the University as well as other materials which was intended to be placed in other scrapbook volumes. This material (clippings, memorabilia, receipts, course materials, publications, etc.) documents her involvement in campus activities and organizations. Notable among her activities are files relating to the Student Executive Committee of the Michigan Memorial Phoenix Project, course materials from the U-M Department of Physical Education for Women, and a workbook and other materials from the summers she spent as a counselor at the University's National Music Camp at Interlochen. A smaller part of the collection consists of travel brochures for the Alpena area collected for the period of the 1990s up to about 2005.

The Law Library was established as part of the University of Michigan Law School in 1859 and is currently maintained and administered as a part of the instructional and research operation of the Law School. The collection contains documentation related to administrative matters within the Law Library, including financial documentation, correspondence, director files, and documentation on the building expansion of the library. The collection also contains some of the material removed from the collections at the library, as well as documentation related to the Law School, which was also previously housed in the library collections.

The material included in the Law Library records are primarily the files of the library directors and of Professor Hobart R. Coffey and Esther Betz. The material included in the Law Library records are divided into five series: Administration, Collections, Law School, Audio Visual Material, and William Cook Papers.
