G. Hoyt Whipple (1917-1999) was a University of Michigan professor emeritus of environmental and industrial health, research scientist, and photographer. Black-and-white photographs taken by G. Hoyt Whipple in November 1962, of members of the Stanley Quartet.

The collection consists of black-and-white photographs taken by G. Hoyt Whipple in November 1962, of members of the Stanley Quartet. The Stanley Quartet—which was part of the University of Michigan's School of Music and performed between 1949 and 1970--was one of the earliest of the ensembles in residence established at schools of music in the U.S. Includes images of Gilbert Ross, Gustave Rosseels, Robert Courte, and Jerome Jelinek, holding their instruments.

Gilbert and Jean Seeley Ketcham papers, 1937-1947 (majority within 1942-1944)

Gilbert Ketcham joined the U. S. Army in 1942 and served overseas in North Africa and Italy until 1944. He was then stationed at Camp McQuade in California, where he monitored prisoners. The collection contains approximately 900 pages of correspondence and other material sent between Ketcham and his wife, Jean Seeley Ketcham, during the war.

This collection contains correspondence sent by Gilbert Ketcham to his wife, Jean Seeley Ketcham, while he was deployed overseas. The collection also contains additional correspondence, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other ephemera collected by Jean Seeley Ketcham during the war.

The majority of correspondence sent by Ketcham to his wife details the course of daily life in Army camps in North Africa and Italy. He regularly reports on films, parties put on by soldiers, meals, trips into cities and towns, and his relationship with other officers.

The collection has been arranged in a single series, Correspondence, and is stored chronologically in binders.

The Publications series (2 linear feet) includes flyers, programs, newsletters, and a history of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society as well as the newsletter of the Friends of the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. The publications are divided into two series: Unit Publications and Sub-Unit Publications.

University of Michigan group established in 1946 devoted to production of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas. Records include production files with programs, photographs, reviews and newspaper clippings, and scattered production notes and memoranda; topical files relating to the Society, its friends organization, and its publication; slides of productions; Society newsletter, "Gasbag"; posters; phonorecords, tapes, and videos of productions.

The records of UMGASS have been divided into ten series: Slides, Topical Files, Production Files, Posters, Memorabilia Volumes, Magnetic Tape Recordings, Sound Recordings, Audiotapes, Videotapes, and Scrapbooks. Because materials on one production can include photographs, scrapbooks, recordings, or slides- all of which live within different boxes of the collection -- a directory has been compiled in the Production Files series. The directory lists the year and title of the UMGASS production for which the library has materials and a lettered key exists that denotes the physical existence and location of materials within the collection.

Gilbert Caswell papers, 1947-1948

Gilbert Caswell was a food and sanitary inspector for the Ann Arbor Health Department, who served as the president of the Ann Arbor Junior Chamber of Commerce. The collection includes a scrapbook and one folder of newspaper clippings, newsletters, photographs, and other documents primarily related to Caswell's work with the Junior Chamber of Commerce.

The Gilbert Caswell papers mainly consist of material regarding his time as the president of the Ann Arbor Junior Chamber of Commerce (JCC). One scrapbook is included with a number of newspaper clippings of organizational news and events. Another folder of various JCC newsletters and rosters are included in the collection, as well as some photographs of Caswell and other members.

Gilbert Currie papers, 1910-1960

Member of the Michigan House of Representatives from Midland, Michigan, 1909-1915; U.S. Congressman, 1917-1921. Correspondence, 1910-1913, relating to activities in the Michigan House, especially his successful effort to become speaker; speeches, 1920-1958 (scattered dates); file relating to his work as legal counsel for the Dow Chemical Company; file concerning his interest in golf; and photographs.

The Currie papers cover the period between 1910 and 1960 and consist primarily of correspondence relating to his years in the Michigan Legislature, including letters of encouragement and support to and from peers and constituents. The majority of this correspondence focuses on support for and speculation concerning Gilbert Currie's bid for the job of speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives.

Republican state senator, president of Cleary College; legislative files and miscellaneous materials from his tenure as Cleary College president.

The Gilbert Bursley collection consists of Legislative files, primarily from the period when he served in the Michigan State Senate. These files consist of newsletters and news releases, correspondence from constituents, and reference files maintained as background information on issues of the day. These files also include a record of the bills that Bursley introduced and his interest in the activities of various state and regional boards, commissions, and agencies. A smaller portion of the collection details some of his interests as president of Cleary College after his left the Legislature.
