Montgomery of Charlevoix, Mich., who served in Company K, 339th Infantry, interviewed by John Robert Clock June 25, 1978. This collection presents material concerning the life, business affairs, and legislative career of John P. Espie (1881-1949). The first folder contains copies of three biographical sketches and some handwritten genealogical information concerning Espie's 19th century forebears. Subsequent folders contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, miscellaneous items, and photographs.

The collection is arranged into a single series of Personal Papers. These include printed materials and files relating to his campaigns for office. The library also has a file of Judge Dethmers office files. The Personal Papers were retained by the Judge and his family for subsequent donation to the Bentley Historical Library. The interpretative comments accompanying some of the file headings were provided by Eugene G. Wanger who was helpful in negotiating this accession.

The Crouse collection relates primarily to his interest in electrical development and cooperation. Include are minutes of the Advisory Board of the National Lamp Works of the General Electric Company, publications of the Society for Electrical Development, bulletins of the Cooperative Electrical Development, and printed materials. There are also some materials concerning his philanthropic endeavors.
