Summer engineering camp of the University of Michigan at Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Records include correspondence, annual reports, and other papers relating to the establishment and administration of the camp; includes papers of camp directors Joseph B. Davis and Clarence T. Johnson; also includes records of predecessor surveying camps, including the Bogardus Engineering Camp at Douglas Lake, Michigan; and photographs.

The Camp Davis record group documents the summer camps for training students in the techniques of surveying and geodesy conducted by the College of Engineering's Department of Geodesy and Surveying. The bulk of the material concerns Camp Davis and Jackson Hole, Wyoming but also includes material relating to earlier camps at Douglas Lake and other sites in Michigan. The Unit Publications series contains brochures, bulletins and course catalogs, calendars, catalogs of publications, flyers announcing lectures and mini-courses, lectures, manuals, posters describing the noon lecture series, press releases featuring Japanese film festivals, programs from the U.S.--Japan Automotive Industry Conference, and reports. The Center for Japanese Studies publishes a monograph series entitled the Michigan Papers in Japanese Studies. The Bentley Historical Library holds only one volume in this series-- Is There Enough Business To Go Around?: Overcapacity In The Auto Industry, number 16. It will be found under the heading "Monographs".

This subseries also includes a newsletter entitled Newsletter. The fall issue of this publication is published in both English and Japanese. The Bentley Historical Library holds a complete run of this publication from 1990 to the present. Prior to this publication the Center for Japanese Studies issued a newsletter, entitled CCS-CJS News, with the Center for Chinese Studies. This title was published from 1983 to 1989 at varying intervals. They also published the CCS-CJS News Update from 1986 to 1988. This was generally a monthly newsletter describing the various activities of the centers. There is also one issue of the newsletter entitled CJS Alumni News. This publication was published in 1981.

The Sub-Unit Publications subseries includes publications regarding the fiftieth anniversary celebration and the Summer Session.

The David Earl Mattern Papers document Mattern's education and career from 1905 to his death in 1959. The collection is organized in four series: Biographical and Personal Materials, Education, Professional Career, and Photographs. Topics covered extensively in this collection include the University of Michigan Men's Glee Club, the Extension Orchestra, and Mattern's activities during the university's Summer Session.

Edward H. Kraus (1875-1973) was a Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Michigan and also served as Dean of the Summer Session, 1915-1933, Dean of the College of Pharmacy, 1923-1933, and Dean of the College of Literature, Science and the Arts, 1933-1945. The collection consists of correspondence, as well as speeches and other files related to his academic career and his association with the Ann Arbor First Methodist Church, the University Research Club, and Phi Kappa Phi fraternal organization.

The Edward Kraus papers document his career as professor of mineralogy and administrator at the University of Michigan; his activities in professional organizations, including g the University Research Club and the Mineralogical Society of America; and his involvement with the Ann Arbor First Methodist Episcopal Church and the Wesley Society. The collection is divided into two series, Correspondence and Other Activities and Interests.

This subseries is arranged alphabetically and includes letters from such personages as Langston Hughes, Victor G. Reuther, Elmer Rice, and William W. Whitehouse. The Topical and University Activities subseries relates to Boys varied interests, such as the Art Cinema League, the Faculty Club, and the American Association of University Professors.

The records of the School of Information (formerly the School of Library Science and most recently the School of Information and Library Studies) include 51 linear feet of material dated between 1904 to 2014. The records document the development library education at Michigan from its beginnings as summer course to a full-fledged professional program that has, in recent years moved beyond traditional library science to incorporate a multi-disciplinary approach to information studies with a strong emphasis on the role of technology in the creation, dissemination and preservation of information.The records also document the decision to change the name of the school from the School of Library and Information Science to the School of Information Science, further emphasizing a focus on information and technology.

The records, including correspondence, reports, committee minutes, administrative files and course descriptions, came to the library in nine accessions. There is some overlap and continuation of series among the accessions.
